Terms of Use

Last updated: June 20, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the ChessImprover mobile app ("the app"). By installing or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app for your own personal, non-commercial chess training. App store terms (e.g. Google Play) also apply to your download and use of the app.

2. Acceptable use

You agree not to reverse engineer (except to the extent permitted by law), redistribute, resell, or misuse the app, and not to use it in any unlawful way or in a way that interferes with its operation.

3. Engine strength and "as is" nature

The app's chess engine, displayed playing strength, and any rating/ELO figures are approximate and provided for guidance only, with no guarantee of accuracy. The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.

4. Intellectual property and third-party content

The app and its original content are owned by the developer. The app also incorporates third-party and open-source components, including chess puzzles derived from Lichess (CC0), neural-network training data derived from open chess engines, and various open-source libraries (e.g. under the Apache License 2.0). Attributions and license details are available in the app's "About" screen. Those components remain the property of their respective owners and are subject to their own licenses.

5. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app.

6. Changes to the app and these Terms

We may modify or discontinue features at any time, and may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

7. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, except where local consumer-protection laws require otherwise.
